The World's Best Lasagna

Sauce:

1 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 lb. ground beef or ground turkey
1/2 lb. italian sausage (mild or hot)
28 oz. diced or crushed tomatoes
13 oz. tomato sauce
6 oz. tomato sauce
1 c. water
1 T sugar
1 1/2 t dried basil
1/2 t fennel seeds
1 t italian seasoning
1 T salt
1/4 t pepper
2 T dried parsley

Saute onion in large frying pan until translucent.  Add garlic.  Cook 30 seconds.  Add meat, break apart with a potato masher.  Add to to slow cooker.  Add the rest of the sauce ingredients.  Cook on high 3-4 hrs.

Cheese layers:

32 oz. cottage cheese, or ricotta cheese
2 eggs
1/2 t salt
2 T dried parsley
2-3 c mozzarella cheese
1-1 1/2 c parmesan cheese

Mix together first 4 ingredients.

1 1/2 boxes no boil lasagna noodles

Assembly (use extra large lasagna pan):

-spread 2 cups sauce
-shingle lasagna noodles
-half of cheese mixture
-mozzarella cheese
-sauce
-parmesan cheese
Repeat layers, top with remaining cheese

Bake 375 degrees. 25 min with foil; 25 min without foil.  For extra browning, broil last five minutes.
